Dynamics CRM

I started my career at Microsoft as a UX Designer on the Dynamics CRM team. I quickly became the lead designer, then Senior Designer, then Senior Designer Manager. CRM grew into one of the most important high profile enterprise business products for Microsoft.

CRM needed a refresh to fit into the new modern aesthetic of Microsoft business apps. This meant redesigning the forms, grids and dashboards. Designed new interaction patterns, information hierarchy, visual styling, contextual actions, control surfaces and navigation.

Business users needed a more mobile friendly experience. We optimized the app to be responsive and adaptive across devices.

Microsoft’s started acquiring new products to strengthen its offering as a complete CRM business suite. My role was to integrate these apps into CRM. This required a redesign of each app. I worked with each product team. Updated designs shown below of Netbreeze.

CRM continued to integrate with other Microsoft business apps. Collaboraton was the cornerstone in aligning Microsft business products. My contributions and leadership helped shape CRM into an industry leading platform

Azure IoT (Internet of Things)

Following my success at Dynamics CRM, I joined a new hot startup within Microsoft—the Internet of Things. This was the hot technology Microsoft had its eyes on. The team was extremely small in the beginning with a big vision to built an entirely new SaaS product that would connect every product at scale.

This was a complex space with different users, scenarios and use cases. I spent the first 6 months doing discovery, and working with researchers mapping the industries, companies and personas of IoT.

This research helped to understand and define the problems. This paved the way for a new product that started to take shape that would solve the problem of connecting devices, monitoring devices, and creating IoT solutions specific to industry verticals.

The product was tested, validated and iterated upon. The result was Microsoft’s first IoT SaaS product that was built upon Azure services that gave manufacturers of smart devices a platform to monitor, track and improve on their products. I created all the UX including user flows, design patterns, component libraries and branding guide. The team grew from 10 people to over 200.

There were lots of complex design challenges in this product like creating the authoring experience so customers could build and customize their own dashboards. Another challenge was real time measuring of telemetry data from connected devices (screen above). This project really pushed me as a designer. What helped me the most is reaching out to other design teams that have solved similar design problems. It was an amazing experience and opportunity to be part of an early startup at Microsoft with huge impact
